Wire Mesh Procurement Process
From specification to receipt inspection in eight steps, with the documents and tolerances that matter at each stage. Typical lead time for a first order: 30–60 days including sea freight.
Step 1 — Write the specification
One page, millimeters only: material grade, wire diameter (mm), opening (mm or µm), roll/panel dimensions, edge finish, coating type & weight (g/m²), tolerance class, and the inspection standard (ASTM/ISO) that governs. Generate a complete RFQ with our inquiry template generator.
Step 2 — RFQ to 3–5 suppliers
Send the identical spec to factories (see the directory) and, if useful, one or two traders for price discovery. Ask each to confirm: exact wire diameter tolerance, coating weight, production lead time, and payment terms — in writing.
Step 3 — Normalize and compare quotes
Quotes are rarely comparable as received. Convert each to price per m² at the same theoretical weight using the FOB price calculator and weight calculator. A quote 15% below the pack usually hides thinner wire or lighter zinc.
Step 4 — Paid sample & verification
Pay for samples from the top 1–2 candidates. Measure wire diameter with a micrometer, verify opening over 10 apertures, weigh a known area against the calculator, and test coating thickness. See the sourcing guide for a checklist.
Step 5 — Contract & deposit
Put tolerances, the inspection standard, packaging, late-delivery terms, and payment schedule in the proforma invoice / sales contract. Standard terms: 30% T/T deposit, 70% against B/L copy. Beneficiary name must match the company name exactly.
Step 6 — Production & mid-production QC
For orders above ~$10,000, book a third-party inspection (SGS, BV, TÜV, or a local QC agency in Shijiazhuang) at 30–50% production completion. They check wire diameter, opening, welding/soldering quality, coating weight, and dimensions against the contract. Cost: typically $200–$400 per man-day — cheap insurance.
Step 7 — Shipping & documents
Confirm container loading efficiency with the container loading calculator before booking. Required documents: commercial invoice, packing list, B/L, certificate of origin (Form A / RCEP where applicable), and any inspection report. Check every document against the contract before paying the balance.
Step 8 — Receipt inspection
On arrival: count rolls/panels against the packing list, check for transit damage and moisture, spot-measure wire diameter and weigh sample pieces. File claims with photos within the contract claim period (usually 30 days). Feed measured values back into your spec for the next order.
