Stainless Steel Wire Mesh
Stainless steel woven mesh is the workhorse of industrial filtration and screening. Anping factories weave it from 1 mesh (heavy quarry screen) down to 635 mesh (pharmaceutical-grade), in rolls typically 1 m wide × 30 m long.
304 vs 316
| Grade | Ni / Cr | Corrosion resistance | Typical use |
|---|---|---|---|
| 304 | 8% Ni, 18% Cr | Good — indoor & general outdoor | Filtration, screening, food contact |
| 316 / 316L | 10–14% Ni, 16–18% Cr + Mo | Excellent — marine & chemical | Coastal, chemical processing, pharma |
| 304 is ~15–20% cheaper than 316 | Unless you need Mo-grade corrosion resistance, 304 is the default. | ||

What to specify when ordering
- Grade: 304 or 316 (ask for a material test certificate — MTC)
- Mesh count and wire diameter in mm (avoid gauge-only specs)
- Weave: plain, twill (for >100 mesh heavy wire), or Dutch weave
- Roll width and length; edges selvage or cut
- Quantity in m² or kg — factories quote per kg for woven mesh

FAQ
How is woven mesh priced?
By weight (USD/kg) plus weaving complexity. Finer mesh with thin wire costs more per kg because weaving is slower. Dutch weave is the most expensive.
Typical MOQ?
Stock specs: 1 roll. Custom spec: usually 100–500 m². Anping factories are flexible on first orders to win long-term buyers.
How do I verify it's real stainless steel?
Request MTC from the wire rod batch, and do a spot PMI test or magnet check on samples (304 is weakly magnetic after cold drawing — a strong magnet sticking hard suggests low-grade steel).
What's the difference between plain, twill, and Dutch weave?
Plain weave: over-under pattern, most common, good for general filtration. Twill weave: wires pass over 2+ wires, allows heavier wire in fine mesh, better flow. Dutch weave: thick warp + thin weft wires, very fine filtration (1–100 micron), no square openings.
Can I get food-grade or pharma certification?
Yes. Ask for FDA-compliant materials, ISO 9001 factory cert, and third-party test reports (SGS/BV/TÜV). Some factories specialize in pharma mesh with documented traceability.
How do I calculate shipping weight for woven mesh?
Use our weight calculator — enter mesh count, wire diameter, width and length to get kg per roll. For container planning, see the container loading calculator.
What surface treatments are available?
Stainless mesh is usually supplied "as woven" (lightly oil-coated for protection). Options include: degreased/cleaned for food use, passivated for enhanced corrosion resistance, and pre-crimped for structural applications.
