Perforated Metal Sheet

Perforated metal is sheet metal punched with precise hole patterns. Anping factories produce it for filtration, screening, architectural façades, acoustic panels, machine guards, and decorative applications in steel, stainless steel, aluminum, and specialty alloys.

FAQ

What's the difference between staggered and straight hole patterns?

Staggered: holes offset in alternating rows, maximum open area and strength. Most common for filtration and screening. Straight: holes aligned in rows and columns, cleaner look for architectural and decorative use. Staggered is usually cheaper to produce.

What open area percentage should I choose?

Higher open area = better flow but less strength. Filtration: 30–50%. Speaker grilles: 40–60%. Acoustic panels: 50–70%. Architectural sunscreens: 30–50%. Safety guards: 20–40% for strength.

Can I get custom hole patterns or logos?

Yes. CNC punching and laser cutting allow custom patterns, images, and logos. Tooling cost applies for unique punch shapes. Minimum order for custom tooling is usually higher (100+ m²). Architectural projects often use custom patterns.

How do I calculate open area for round holes?

For staggered round holes: Open area ≈ 0.905 × (d/t)² × 100%, where d = hole diameter, t = pitch (center-to-center spacing). Example: 3mm holes on 5mm pitch = 0.905 × (3/5)² = 32.6% open area.

What's the minimum thickness for perforated metal?

Down to 0.3mm for stainless and aluminum with laser cutting. Standard punching handles 0.5–6.0mm. Thinner sheets are more prone to warping and need careful handling. For structural use, 1.5mm+ is recommended.

Can perforated sheets be bent, rolled, or welded?

Yes. Perforated sheets can be brake-formed, rolled into cylinders, and welded. Note: welding near holes may cause distortion. For cylindrical filters, specify whether sheet should be pre-rolled or rolled after perforating. Powder coating after fabrication is common.
